Attorney-at-Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan A. YAVUZ is a Partner Attorney at BOSCA Law Office and concurrently serves as the Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Law.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Ankara University Faculty of Law, Hakan A. YAVUZ earned his Master’s degree at Kırıkkale University with a thesis entitled “The Crime of Fraud under the Turkish Penal Code”, and completed his PhD at Gazi University with a dissertation titled “Probation in the Criminal Justice System.”

He conducted postdoctoral research between 2014 and 2018 in the Netherlands at Leiden University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Between 2002 and 2004, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law at Kırıkkale University Faculty of Law. Following his judicial and prosecutorial traineeship completed between 2004 and 2006, he served as a Public Prosecutor at Erzurum Şenkaya and Çorum Alaca between 2006 and 2011. From 2011 to 2014, he held positions as an Examining Judge at the General Directorate of International Law and Foreign Relations and the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice.

Between 2014 and 2018, he served in a diplomatic capacity as Justice Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in The Hague, Netherlands, where he worked extensively in the fields of international judicial cooperation, extradition, transfer of sentenced persons, transfer of criminal proceedings, transfer of execution of sentences, and international criminal law.

From 2019 to 2023, within the scope of his duties as a Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, he worked in departments dealing with smuggling crimes, terrorism-related offenses, organized crime, fraud and robbery, bank embezzlement, sexual offenses, forestry crimes, and trademark infringement offenses.

He is the author of the books “Smuggling Crimes in Practice,” “Alternative Methods to Prosecution in Criminal Procedure,” and “The Criminal Enforcement System and Probation.” In addition, he has published numerous articles in national and international academic journals in both Turkish and English, produced scientific translations, and presented academic papers at symposiums, congresses, and conferences.

He is a member of the Criminal Law Scientific Commission of the Ministry of Justice, the European Confederation of Probation, the European Society of Criminology, and the Turkish Football Federation Amateur Football Disciplinary Board. He is fluent in English and has an intermediate level of Dutch.
